Mike Sheridan, Chair of the Andean Committee of the Greater Appalachian Llama and Alpaca Association, describes the trip taken to Peru April 1st-10th 2019 in video below. Twenty GALA members worked and lodged with The Llama Pack Project of Urubamba, Peru to share modern uses of llamas and learn about traditional uses from the llama farmers in the mountains of Quishuarani and the Cancha Cancha Community. GALA embarked on a second trip to visit Llama Pack Project friends in 2023.

GALA sponsored 200 cria coats that were distributed to 10 farmers during the January Nunoa Project trip to the Altiplano as a donation from the Andean Committee of GALA. Ten alpaca farmers were recipients of the cria coats. Their herds ranged from 7 to 210 alpacas. Nine of these farmers were from the Nunoa District and one from Llogue District. Four of the 10 alpaca farmers were women. This team on this recent Nunoa project trip consisted of two leaders Jhona from Peru and Heather from Virginia, vet student Eliza from Colorado State, Veterinary professor Marc from University of the West Indies, and Peruvian Veterinarian Estefany from the Andes. These cria coats have already proven successful in saving the lives of crias for other alpaca farmers and, in turn, helping their businesses grow and thrive.
